Changing face of East Coast

Changing face of East Coast. The recent URA exhibition “Spaces for our Dreams,” which debuted on June 6, for the Long Term Plan Review, highlighted Singapore’s East Region. One of these is the “Long Island,” which stretches along the southeast coast from Marine East to Changi.

Integrating coastal protection measures with envisioned future reclamation is one of the several solutions being researched for the Long Island. To improve Singapore’s food and water resilience, which includes building a new reservoir. The Long Island might also be built for brand-new residences and combined with leisure areas along the coast. In the 1991 Concept Plan, a reclaimed island with waterfront homes and recreational opportunities was initially the plan.

Reclamation has a lengthy history along the East Coast. Many housing developments along Marine Parade and Bedok South, notably Bayshore, were built on reclaimed land between the 1960s and the 1980s. The 185 ha East Coast Park, with a 15 km coastline, was created as part of this reclamation. Marine Parade was the first HDB housing estate in Singapore to be built on reclaimed land. Since the first HDB towers were built on Marine Parade in 1972, there have been approximately 7,862 HDB apartments built. In July, a five-room condo in Marine Parade with a clear view of the water sold for $1.01 million. Even though the flat is just 51 years old and the lease is 47 years old, this is still accurate.

The potential for additional price increases following the inauguration of the MRT stations in Phase 4 of the Thomson-East Coast Line is one of the causes for the optimism (TEL). Phases 4 and 5’s ten new stations, which span from Founders’ Memorial to Sungei Bedok, are anticipated to open in 2024 or 2025.
